Wayforward has made some amazing games before. From the shantae series to godzilla domination, they know how to make some quality entertainment. And that fact holds true with the 2011 game, Thor: God of Thunder! For the ds… i hear console versions were subpar
Story: the story is more compelling and exciting then the movie it coincided with (mainly cause its not “based” on the movie). Trolls are invading asgard and thor decides to storm their planet as revenge, loki pulls a prank on thor sending him planet to planet taking names. From Jotunheim to hel (which actually has hela in hee first mcu appearance) and a fight with surtur, ending with mangog destroying asgard, only to be stopped by thor and loki. The plot is good for getting us around and giving us a reason to beat up waves of enemies, but how can you beat up trolls and demons with out-
Combat: the combat in thor is simple. 2 attack buttons, a charged attack, Throwing mjolnir, and some arial attacks. Basic but effective. You can also pick up and throw your enemies, and some runes will help out in battle as well. Speaking of runes
Collectibles: throughout the game, theres runes to collect. These are you upgrades, you can have 3 active at a time. Some give you more strength, some boost your super meter, and some are practically useless. Once you find a set that works for you, collecting them only serve a small goal.
Extras: once you beat the game and collect the runes, you unlock a survival mode where you fight for as long as possible, a mode where you play as thor’s friends on a similar mission (beating that unlocks more characters in said mode) and collecting all the runes unlocks, bowling… yep… there isnt even a scoring system… one round and back to the menu screen.
All and all, Thor: God of Thunder for the DS is a great game! I beat it in just under 5 hours, so while it isnt long. Its fun. Not exactly a game for the younger audience (some boss fights are nightmares) but if you love beat em ups, this might be the game for you. Isnt even that expensive online either, you can get it at gamestop’s website for like 9.99, which i’d say is a great deal!
I’d give it about a 5/10. Middle of the road. Theres better by the same company, but if you love thor and beat em ups, knock yourself out
