With Once Upon a Deadpool, and the passing of William Goldman, we’re all asking ourselves- what’s it going to take to get Grandpa to sit down by our bedside, and tell us a story?
Not just any story, of course- there has to be Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters.
Chases. Escapes. True love and, of course, Miracles.
Well, maybe we can skip the torture, Fallout 76 is out, so if we’ve always got that if we’re into being tortured. So the original question was- what’s it going to take to get a story out of Grandpa.
Not much it turns out. The mind of Roberta Williams spawned a franchise of games, and the first was remade as a bed time story that you replay in a similar style to the Princess Bride. Grandpa (The King) narrates and you travel along freeing dragons and competing to save the kingdom with your old adventurers cap (a trope fans will be familiar with).
So if you’re caught up in the mood, or if you just want a newer version of something you’ve heard was a great game- the King’s Quest I Reboot really was all it was cracked up to be.
